The Good-bye Tour

So, I was trying to pull out more of my portrait stuff for my portrait blog, and came across these images. Sadly, this was the last concert I went to and it was in late 2006. It was Phil Whickham, Audio Adrenaline, and Mercy Me on the "Good-bye Tour", Audio Adrenaline's last. My sister won tickets and took several of us, with backstage passes and front row seats. I was most impressed with Audio Adrenaline's show. Figures--I'm usually pretty late in the game to catch on to a good thing.

The Great Horned...Squirrel??

A squirrel poses by a sanitation disposal device on the first day of spring, Thursday, March 20, 2008.

I do not retouch or "fix" any of the images I post on this blog other than color correction or sharpening if needed. That said, my portrait/digital retoucher side would ordinarilly remove any distracting background branches that might be mistaken for antlers (or a cane). One of my new goals, however, is to improve my in-camera editing of the frame, BEFORE I actually snap off the shot. :-) He sure was cute though.

The End is Near?

Ice melts in residential area of Waterloo on Monday (and everywhere else too). Thick sheets of ice and slush break apart as small streams of trickling water move through.

It's SO nice to see the pavement again!

Missed All the Excitement

A news van and a few scattered law enforcement officers remain at Dancer Hall on the University of Northern Iowa campus Tuesday night. Earlier in the evening a student recieved a threatening text message from her boyfriend, Todd Michael Younk, 18, of Windsor Heights. Younk allegedly made a threat that made reference to a fire arm. He was later arrested upon his arrival at his mother's home.

As a photographer who aspires to be a paid photojournalist one day, I found it frustrating that because of other employment obligations I wasn't able to be there when the actual story was happening. Nothing really "happened", but I sure missed all of the hype. Next time, I just need to go.

Word of the Day

Almost everyday I try to give myself a word or theme to photograph.

Today's word was "contradiction".

Desolate Beauty

Winter rests peacefully over George Wyth State Park in Waterloo, Iowa on Tuesday evening, March 4, 2008. Although storms continue to pass through the area causing many delays and school closings, they leave behind this desolate beauty that lends calm.
